According to Amazon, the number of active AWS users exceeds one million, with clients like Goldman Sachs, Disney, Samsung, and Snapchat.
AWS continues to attract major customers, adding Yahoo Ad Tech, Brookfield Asset Management, Wallbox, and American Family Insurance in the fourth quarter. Additionally, AWS launched new regions in Spain and Switzerland, along with a second region in India, further expanding its infrastructure. By the end of 2022, AWS had 96 availability zones across 30 geographic regions and plans to add 15 more availability zones and 5 new AWS regions.
Microsoft Azure, launched in 2010, is part of the Microsoft Intelligent Cloud segment, which also includes other cloud services like SQL Server, Windows Server, and Visual Studio. The Intelligent Cloud segment offers services such as databases, data storage, artificial intelligence, networking, and web and mobile apps. Microsoft has also seen impressive growth over the past decade, with revenues reaching $81.2 billion and an operating income of $34.8 billion, achieving an operating margin above 40%.
According to Dgtl Ingfra, by the end of 2022, Microsoft Azure had 60 geographic regions and 116 availability zones, a significantly higher number than AWS and Google Cloud combined, which have 64 geographic regions. This gives Microsoft a strong competitive advantage in global coverage, allowing it to attract companies worldwide.
Google Cloud, available to customers since late 2011, has become the third-largest cloud service provider globally, generating $26.3 billion in revenue in 2022. Its services include databases, security, smart analytics, and artificial intelligence. According to Dgtl Ingfra, by the end of 2022, Google Cloud operated 34 regions and 103 availability zones, spanning the United States, the Americas, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region. Thanks to its global reach, Google Cloud has secured major clients such as Airbus, Procter & Gamble, Carrefour, PayPal, Vodafone, and Twitter.
